This is a call out for interest to attend the “Our Revolution is Now” – Pan-Canadian Gathering of Young Feminists in Winnipeg, May 20-23, 2011. The PSAC Alliance Executive Committee has approved funding for one young woman member per Region to attend and the PSAC B.C. Regional Council has also agreed to provide funding for one young woman member. We are therefore pleased to be able to send two young PSAC women (30 years of age or younger) to attend this Gathering of Young Feminists.

The deadline for expression of interest is midnight, April 10th. Please see the attached poster and conference call out for more information.

This Gathering will unite young women and young feminists who wish to:

  • Learn about feminism and what it means to other young women
  • Share your reflections and analysis of different issues that affect young women from diverse backgrounds.
  • Learn about and discuss priorities for action as young feminists
  • Share struggles and discuss strategies to resist and combat patriarchy and other forms of oppression
  • Create solidarity and reinforce the RebELLEs young feminist movement in Canada
  • Celebrate our struggles and solidarity… Who said feminists don’t know how to party!?

For more information visit rebelles.org.

This is an opportunity for young women from PSAC to engage in the overall young feminist movement.

The members selected will commit to:

  • writing a report
  • making a presentation to PSAC Women’s Committee(s) or other PSAC body
  • helping to organize a follow-up activity involving young women

To be eligible to apply you should support feminist and equality issues, be a member of the PSAC, and be 30 years of age or younger.

Please send your expression of interest in attending via email to Kay Sinclair, PSAC B.C. REVP, or by fax at (604) 430-0194 by midnight April 10th, with a paragraph of up to 300 words describing your feminist perspective or philosophy; any involvement in PSAC women’s activities; any community feminist involvement; any involvement in young workers’ activities; and why you are interested in attending. Please feel free to indicate whether you identify as a member of an equity group, i.e. lesbian or bisexual; aboriginal; racially visible; or a member with a disability. (This is optional.)

Please also provide your contact information and your PSAC ID number.
